How to update Opera
Updating is free, takes about a minute, and your open tabs are safe.
On your computer
- Click the O menu button at the top left of Opera. On a Mac, use the Opera menu in the menu bar.
- Click Update & Recovery…
- Click Check for Update. Opera downloads any update by itself.
- When the download finishes, click Update, and relaunch Opera when asked. Your tabs come back automatically.
Shortcut: type opera://update into the address bar and press Enter to open the same page.
On Android
- Open the Opera page in Google Play with the button below — the store lists it as “Opera browser with VPN”, which is the same app.
- If you see an Update button, tap it. If you see Open instead, you are already up to date.
- No luck? In the Play Store, tap your profile picture at the top right, choose Manage apps & device, and update Opera from there.
On iPhone and iPad
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile picture at the top right.
- Scroll down to the list of available updates.
- Tap Update next to Opera, or Update All.
On iPhone and iPad, every browser uses the web engine that ships with iOS, so it also helps to keep iOS itself up to date: Settings, then General, then Software Update.
Good to know
- Updating is free and usually takes about a minute.
- Restarting Opera to finish an update does not lose your open tabs — they are restored automatically.
