How to update Firefox
Updating is free, takes about a minute, and your open tabs are safe.
On your computer
- Click the menu button (three lines) at the right end of the toolbar.
- Choose Help, then About Firefox. On a Mac you can also use the Firefox menu in the menu bar, then About Firefox.
- The small About window checks for updates and downloads any update by itself.
- Click Restart to Update Firefox. Your tabs come back after the restart.
On Android
- Open the Firefox page in Google Play with the button below — the store lists it as “Firefox Fast & Private Browser”, which is the same app.
- If you see an Update button, tap it. If you see Open instead, you are already up to date.
- No luck? In the Play Store, tap your profile picture at the top right, choose Manage apps & device, and update Firefox from there.
On iPhone and iPad
- Open the App Store.
- Tap your profile picture at the top right.
- Scroll down to the list of available updates.
- Tap Update next to Firefox, or Update All.
On iPhone and iPad, every browser uses the web engine that ships with iOS, so it also helps to keep iOS itself up to date: Settings, then General, then Software Update.
Good to know
- Updating is free and usually takes about a minute.
- Restarting Firefox to finish an update does not lose your open tabs — they are restored automatically.
