How to update Chrome

Updating is free, takes about a minute, and your open tabs are safe.

On your computer

  1. Click the three-dots menu button at the top right of Chrome.
  2. Choose Help, then About Google Chrome.
  3. Chrome now checks for updates and downloads any update by itself — just wait a moment.
  4. Click Relaunch. Your tabs and windows come back automatically.

Shortcut: type chrome://settings/help into the address bar and press Enter to open the same page.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top right.
  3. Scroll down to the list of available updates.
  4. Tap Update next to Chrome, or Update All.

On iPhone and iPad, every browser uses the web engine that ships with iOS, so it also helps to keep iOS itself up to date: Settings, then General, then Software Update.
